Only July 13, 2015, the Boy Scouts of America announced they have adopted a new charter and resolution that changed the adult leadership standards policy. The new resolution states that chartered organizations will now be able to select leaders regardless of their sexual orientation. However, the resolution also affirms the right of religious charters to choose leaders whose beliefs and standards are consistent with their own. According the press release, the National Executive Board will meet to ratify the resolution on July 27.

In response to the resolution, the Church released the following statement:

“As a chartering organization, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has always had the right to select Scout leaders who adhere to moral and religious principles that are consistent with our doctrines and beliefs.  Any resolution adopted by the Boy Scouts of America regarding leadership in Scouting must continue to affirm that right.”
