Elder Dale G. Renlund of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles joined his wife Ruth, local church leaders, and construction workers to tour the Rome Italy Temple construction site.
The temple, announced in 2008, has been under construction for nearly a decade; members around the world rejoiced when it was announced the temple would be dedicated in March 2019, with a public open house running from January to February.
On his official Facebook social media page, Elder Renlund stated the temple grounds are “amazing” and he is “anxious for it to be completed.”
“A wonderful spirit rests on the project and the workers. The temple is built in elliptical curves and fits beautifully in the city of Rome. The visitors’ center features representations of the New Testament Apostles with a replica of the Christus as the focal point with the inscribed invitation ‘Come unto me.’
As a modern-day Apostle of Jesus Christ, I testify that our Savior wants to heal us, He wants us to come to Him. This and all temples are built for that express purpose. I am anxious for it to be completed so that all who attend can receive the healing and sealing God intends for His children.”
The temple complex has many features. A stake center, visitors’ center, lodging house, family history, and beautiful gardens are also being built around the temple. Featured in the visitors’ center is a beautiful replica of the famous Christus statue by Bertel Thorvaldsen. The other statues of the twelve apostles are also featured.
