Haiti’s First Mormon Temple to Begin Construction

News Release from Mormon Newsroom

The First Presidency has announced the Port-au-Prince Haiti Temple groundbreaking will be on Saturday, October 28, 2017.

The groundbreaking ceremony will be under the direction of Elder Walter F. González of the Seventy and president of the Caribbean Area.

Attendance at the site will be by invitation. It is anticipated that the services will be transmitted via the internet to Church meetinghouses within the proposed temple district.

The temple was announced by President Thomas S. Monson April 5, 2015.

After the temple is completed, open house dates will be announced so the public can tour the temple before it is dedicated. A date for the dedication will also be announced.

There are currently 182 temples throughout the world either in operation, under construction or announced. Three are currently being renovated, with another eight scheduled for renovation.
