The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has unveiled new information about two of its upcoming temples in Mexico and Argentina. On June 9, 2025, Church officials announced the site for the Chihuahua Mexico Temple and released an exterior rendering for the Buenos Aires City Center Argentina Temple. Both sacred buildings represent continued growth and deepening roots for Latter-day Saints in these regions.
Chihuahua Mexico Temple: A New Spiritual Landmark in Northern Mexico

Located at the intersection of Avenida de la Cantera and Avenida Real Escondido in the Reserva Territorial la Hacienda, the Chihuahua Mexico Temple will rise on a 5.87-acre plot in the heart of Chihuahua’s capital. The single-story temple will span approximately 19,000 square feet and marks the third temple to be built in the state of Chihuahua.
The temple was first announced by President Russell M. Nelson during the April 2024 general conference. At the time, he urged members to “think celestial” by making the temple central in their lives.
“Time in the temple will help you to think celestial and to catch a vision of who you really are, who you can become and the kind of life you can have forever,” he said. “Regular temple worship will enhance the way you see yourself and how you fit into God’s magnificent plan.”

The nation, home to more than 1.5 million Church members across nearly 1,900 congregations, has seen a steady expansion of temple construction in recent years.
Existing temples dot the country in Ciudad Juárez, Colonia Juárez, Guadalajara, Hermosillo, Mérida, Mexico City, Monterrey, Oaxaca, Puebla, Tampico, Tijuana, Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Veracruz and Villahermosa. Others are under development in Cancún, Cuernavaca, Culiacán, Mexico City Benemérito, Juchitán de Zaragoza, Pachuca, Querétaro, Reynosa, San Luis Potosí, Toluca, Torreón and Tula.
The history of the Church in Mexico dates back to 1870s, when the first missionary efforts were launched. Today, temples serve as spiritual anchors for members throughout the country, offering sacred ordinances and eternal covenants to strengthen individuals and families.
Buenos Aires City Center Temple: A Second Temple for Argentina’s Capital

The future temple will be constructed on a 1.56-acre site at the corner of Avenida Córdoba and Reconquista in the bustling center of Argentina’s capital city.
Originally announced by President Nelson during the October 2022 general conference, this temple will be the second in Buenos Aires and the seventh overall in Argentina. Other temple locations include Bahía Blanca, Córdoba, Rosario, and the newly dedicated temples in Salta and Mendoza.
The Salta Argentina Temple was dedicated by Elder D. Todd Christofferson on June 16, 2024, while the Mendoza Argentina Temple followed with a dedication by Elder Ronald A. Rasband on September 22, 2024.

The Church has grown steadily since its beginnings in the country in 1923, when two German immigrants began preaching in Buenos Aires. Over the past century, Argentina has become a spiritual home for generations of faithful Saints.

Temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serve as sacred spaces where members make covenants with God, receive instruction on the divine purpose of life, and participate in ordinances that unite families across generations. Inside these houses of worship, Latter-day Saints commit to living the teachings of Jesus Christ, including obedience, chastity, and lifelong service to God and others.
