Ninety-four years ago our beloved prophet, President Russell M. Nelson, was born to Marion and Edna Nelson. He has dedicated his life to serving people, both in and out of the Church. President Nelson graduated from the University of Utah in August 1947 with an M.D. degree.

Russell M. Nelson explains a surgical procedure. Dr. Nelson built a heart-lung bypass machine, which he used during the first open-heart surgery in the state of Utah.


The Nelson family, 1982. Russell and Dantzel are parents to 10 children—nine daughters and one son. They have 57 grandchildren and over 100 great-grandchildren. Sister Nelson unexpectedly passed away in 2005.
