The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has released a new site location for the Tampa Florida, Lehi Utah and West Jordan Utah Temples. The latter two temples were announced at the Church’s April 2024 general conference.

Tampa Florida Temple

The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced a change in the location for the Tampa Florida Temple.

The site location was previously announced in October 2022. A new location has been announced.

The single-story temple of approximately 29,000 square feet will be constructed on a 12-acre site at 9445 Camden Fields Parkway, Riverview, Florida.

The Tampa Florida Temple was announced in April 2022 by Church President Russell M. Nelson. “Temples will bless countless lives on both sides of the veil,” he said after announcing the Tampa Florida Temple.

There are four other temples announced, under construction or in operation in Florida including the Fort Lauderdale Florida, Jacksonville Florida, Orlando Florida and Tallahassee Florida temples.

The first Latter-day Saint congregation was created in 1897 in the Big Bend region of this southeastern state. By 1904, there were 1,230 Church members in Florida. Today, there are nearly 173,000 Latter-day Saints in around 275 congregations.

Lehi Utah Temple

This temple will be built on a 22.48-acre site northwest of the intersection of 3950 North and Center Street in Lehi. Plans call for a multi-story temple of approximately 85,000 square feet and a new meetinghouse. This will be the city’s first temple.

Temples currently in operation in Utah are found in American Fork (Mount Timpanogos), Bountiful, Brigham City, Cedar City, Draper, Logan, Manti, Monticello, Ogden, Orem, Payson, Provo (Provo City Center), Saratoga Springs, South Jordan (Jordan River and Oquirrh Mountain), St. George (Red Cliffs and St. George) and Vernal.

New temples under construction in Utah are those in Ephraim, Heber Valley, Lindon, Smithfield, Syracuse and Tooele (Deseret Peak). The Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple is closed for reconstruction, and the Salt Lake Temple is currently under renovation.

The Taylorsville Utah Temple will be dedicated on June 2, 2024, by Elder Gerrit W. Gong of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. On June 16, 2024, the Layton Utah Temple will be dedicated by Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

President Russell M. Nelson announced the construction of the Lehi Utah Temple and the West Jordan Utah Temple on April 7, 2024.

West Jordan Utah Temple

This temple, West Jordan’s first, will be built on a 16.10-acre site at the approximately 7148 South and west of Highway 111. Plans call for a multi-story temple of approximately 85,000 square feet and a new meetinghouse.

“Time in the temple will help you to think celestial and to catch a vision of who you really are, who you can become, and the kind of life you can have forever,” President Nelson said before announcing the Lehi and West Jordan Temples. “Regular temple worship will enhance the way you see yourself and how you fit into God’s magnificent plan. I promise you that.”

Utah, the Church’s world headquarters, is home to nearly 2.3 million Latter-day Saints and has 30 houses of the Lord in operation, under construction or announced.

Latter-day Saints consider temples to be the house of the Lord and the most sacred places of worship on the earth. The primary purpose of temples is for faithful members of the Church to receive peace, inspiration, and spiritual power as they enter into sacred agreements with God in His holy house.
