This Day in Church History
1839: Elders Parley P. Pratt and Orson Pratt leave Nauvoo to embark on the mission of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles to England.
1852: At a special conference in Salt Lake City, the doctrine of plural marriage is first publicly announced Orson Pratt under the direction of Brigham Young. Several Church leaders had been practicing the principle privately since learning of it from Joseph Smith in Nauvoo.
1877: President Brigham Young dies in Salt Lake City at age 76, after serving the Church for more than 42 years.
1886: In Haifa, Elder Jacob Spori baptizes Johan George Grau, the first convert in Palestine.
2010: The Kyiv Ukraine Temple is dedicated, the first temple built in a nation of the former Soviet Union.
