This Day in Church History

1828: Emmeline Blanche Wells is born in Massachusetts. She later becomes a woman’s advocate and the fifth general president of the Relief Society.
1860: The Desert News publishes a guide for the Deseret Alphabet, an experimental phonetic alphabet developed under Brigham Young. It was designed to help foreign converts immigrating to Utah learn English.
2000: The one hundred millionth copy of the Book of Mormon is published.
