This Day in LDS History
1891: Brigham Smoot and Alva J. Butler arrive in Tonga as the first Latter-day Saint missionaries to those islands. Exactly one year later they baptize Tonga’s first convert.
1987: The Genealogical Library celebrates the completion of transferring information from the card catalog system to a computer system.
1999: The American Society of Landscape Architects awards the Church a “once-in-a-century” medallion for its landscaping and gardens at Church headquarters in Salt Lake City.
