This Day in Church History
1833: Joseph Smith provides the plat of the “City of Zion,” featuring square blocks, large home lots, and street running in four cardinal directions. The design is intended to serve a city of up to twenty thousand inhabitants and becomes the basic model for LDS settlements in the Intermountain West.
1966: The Bermuda Branch, the first branch in Bermuda, is organized.
1976: As a goodwill gesture by the state of Missouri to symbolically apologize for past abuse to Latter-day Saints, Missouri governor Christopher S. Bonds signs an executive order rescinding the infamous “extermination order” issued in October 1838 by Governor Lilburn W. Boggs.
