This Day in Church History
1804: Emma Hale Smith, the wife of the Prophet Joseph Smith and first president of the Nauvoo Female Relief Society, is born in Harmony, Pennsylvania.
1875: At age ninety-two, Martin Harris, one of the Three Witnesses of the Book of Mormon, dies in Clarkston, Utah, and is buried with a copy of the Book of Mormon in his right hand and a copy of the Doctrine and Covenants in his left.
1949: The Chinese Mission is organized; it is discontinued in 1953.
1993: In Laie, Oahu, King Taufa’ahau Tupou IV of Tonga attends the Polynesian Cultural Center’s thirtieth-anniversary festivities.
