1844: Joseph Smith meets with the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in what is his last opportunity to address the group before his martyrdom.
1850: Colonel Thomas L. Kane, a nonmember friend of the Latter-day Saints, gives a lecture on “the Mormons” to the Historical Society of Pennsylvania. Kane’s address is one of the few non-Mormon descriptions of the Church during this period that portrays the saints in a favorable light.
