1838: Emma Smith visits her husband, Joseph, in Liberty Jail, Missouri, and spends two days confined with him in the jail.
1839: Alexander Wright and Samuel Mulliner, the first missionaries to Scotland, begin preaching the gospel in that country.
1873: Peter O. Thomassen issues the first foreign-language paper (Danish and Norwegian) published in Utah, the Utah Posten.
