1867: The Deseret telegraph line opens in St. George, Utah, Connecting the Saints in southern Utah with Church headquarters in Salt Lake City.
1887: C. Meyer Zulick, governor of Arizona, signs into law a bill repealing the anti-Mormon ‘test oath’ in Arizona, which had barred man Arizona Saints from voting by requiring voters to swear they did no believe in or practice polygamy.
1959: BYU studies begins publishing faith-promoting works of LDS scholarship, including articles,essays, and poetry on a variety of subjects.
1998: The First Presidency renews the call for all Church members to be active in volunteer service and political, governmental, and community leadership.
