Scripture

“And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.” Matthew 26:30

Quote

“Sacred music has a unique capacity to communicate our feelings of love for the Lord. This kind of communication is a wonderful aid to our worship. Many have difficulty expressing worshipful feelings in words, but all can join in communicating such feelings through the inspired words of our hymns.” Dallin H. Oaks

This Day in LDS History

1850: Louisa Barnes Pratt, wife of missionary Addison Pratt, is called and set apart to go to the islands of the sea with her husband to help proclaim the gospel. Louisa’s calling represents an important step forward toward the calling of single sisters in the Church as full-time missionaries, which did not take place until 1898.
1874: During general conference President Brigham Young organizes the united order in the Salt Lake City wards. Over the course of the following months, the order is organized in dozens of towns throughout the territory.
1998: The Church announces plans to build temples in Halifax, Nova Scotia; Fukuoka, Japan; Suva, Fiji; Ciudad, Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico; and Kona, Hawaii.
