- Write a personal standard for dating that names specific behaviors you will not accept, such as belittling humor or persistent criticism, and keep it somewhere visible before or after spending time with someone. Use it to honestly evaluate whether a relationship protects your dignity and allows love to endure without harm.
- Practice becoming someone worth dating by intentionally choosing one Christlike behavior to strengthen, such as listening without correcting or speaking encouragement instead of sarcasm, and writing it on a small card or phone note as a reminder. Look for real opportunities to live that behavior in conversations so love becomes something you actively practice, not just something you hope to receive.
- After a date or meaningful interaction, write a brief journal entry noting when you felt emotionally safe and when you did not, along with how you treated the other person in those moments. Reviewing these entries can help you recognize patterns that show whether a relationship—and your own conduct—reflects patience, respect, and genuine care.
