1878: John Jacques, a survivor of the martin handcart company, begins a series of letters to the Salt lake Herald describing the tragic journey of the company.
1998: The Church announces a proposal to purchase the block of Main Street East of Temple Square and convert it into a plaza uniting Temple Square with the Church Office Building block to the east. The plaza is to feature gardens, walkways, and under ground parking.
