This Day in LDS History

1831: The Church purchases nearly sixty-four acres of the temple lot in Independence, Missouri, from Jones H. Flournoy at a cost of $130.
1980: The BYU football team wins the 1980 Holiday Bowl, the team’s first bowl victory, over Southern Methodist University. In the final minutes, the Cougars make an impressive comeback capped by quarterback Jim McMahon’s forty-six yard ‘hail Mary’ touchdown pass to tight end Clay Brown in the closing seconds of the game. The game is later called the ‘Miracle Bowl.’
1988: Teresa Hughes from Kingsport, Tennessee, becomes the four millionth visitor to Temple Square.
