1831: Joseph Smith Receives Doctrine and Covenants 72, which appoints Newel K. Whitney to be a bishop of the Church in Kirkland and sets forth various responsibilities of bishops in the Church.
1933:C. Max Caldwell, later a member of the Second Quorum of the Seventy, is born in Salt Lake City, Utah.
1961: The first twenty-nine missionaries enter the missionary language institute, the forerunner of the language training mission, and the missionary training center, in Provo, Utah.
