1857 Martha Maria Hughes (Cannon), later a women’s right activist, medical school graduate, and the first woman in the United States to be elected to a state senate (Utah), is born in Llandudno, Wales.

1971 Henry B. Eyring is appointed tenth president of Ricks College.
