1840 In England, Parley P. Pratt issues the first number of The Latter-day Saints’ Millennial Star, which would become the longest running publication in the Church.
1850 A tornado demolishes the north wall and weakens the south and east walls of the abandoned Nauvoo Temple so that they must be torn down.
1893 The first branch in American Samoa is organized in Pago Pago.
1996 President Gordon B. Hinckley visits Shenzhen, China, becoming the first Church President to visit mainland China.
