This Day in LDS History

1845:President Brigham Young dedicates the attic of the Nauvoo temple so that the saints can receive their endowments before abandoning the city for the west.
1973: In response to U.S. president Richard Nixon’s request to conserve energy during the energy crisis, the Church announces that Christmas lights on Temple Square will not be turned on this year.
1985: President Gordon B. Hinckley breaks ground for the Las Vegas Nevada Temple.
1990: The government of Ghana gives the Church permission to resume public activities in that country. In June 1989, the government had expelled the Church’s missionaries and confined worship services to private homes.
