1864: While trying to land at Lahaina, Maui in the Hawaiian Islands, Elder Lorenzo Snow drowns when a boat he and Elder Ezra T. Benson are in capsizes. After an hour of prayer and artificial resuscitation, Elder Snow revives.
1982: The First Presidency announces plans to build a temple in Guayaquil, Ecuador.
1990: David M. Kennedy is released as the First Presidency’s international representative.
2001: President Gordon B. Hinckley announces the Perpetual Education Fund, which will help young adults in the church receive the support and resources they need to gain an education and better employment.
