1834: Joseph Smith and a company of missionaries arrive in Pontiac, Michigan, and preach to the Saints in that area.
1950: Christopher B. Cannon, later a Utah representative in the U.S. Congress, is born in Salt Lake City, Utah.
1979: The first Latter-day Saint branch is organized on the island of Barbados in the Caribbean Sea.
