Living the Lord’s standards requires that we cultivate the gift of the Holy Ghost. That gift helps us understand the doctrine and apply it personally. Because truth given by revelation can only be understood by revelation, our studies need to be prayerful. Scriptures attest to the efficacy of prayer in daily life. One is in Proverbs: “In all thy ways acknowledge [God], and he shall direct thy paths.” Another comes from the Book of Mormon: “Counsel with the Lord in all thy doings, and he will direct thee for good.” —Russell M.
