1851: The first baptisms in New South Wales, Australia, take place at Sydney.
1940: Jeffery R. Holland, later BYU president and a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, is born in St. George, Utah.
1998: L. Jay Silvester, the world discus champion, and Olympic medalist is inducted into the National Track and Field Hall of Fame.
