1836: In a meeting of the Twelve Apostles in Kirtland, Joseph Smith announces that ‘the twelve are not subject to any other than the Frist Presidency… Where I am not, there is no First Presidency over the Twelve.’
1920: The Eighteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution goes into effect, prohibiting the manufacture, production, and sale of alcohol. President Heber J. Grant, a fervent supporter of the amendment believes it is divinely mandated because it out laws items forbidden by the Word of Wisdom.
