Welcome to Guideposts! Guideposts is a roundup of inspiring social media posts from Church leaders and organizations. This series highlights key messages, quotes, and teachings shared across various platforms, offering you valuable insights and encouragement to strengthen your faith and live the gospel in meaningful ways.

To celebrate Elder Ulisses Soares’ birthday, we’ve gathered ten of his recent social media posts. He shares what he learned from a fellow temple patron, how he made time for the scriptures as a busy student, and why remembering his mother strengthened his hope in the Resurrection.

During his grandson’s first visit to the temple, Elder Soares met a man who was both blind and deaf and was serving with help from sign language interpreters. He also describes attending a synagogue after an act of hatred injured a worshipper, where he was touched by the congregation’s warmth and unity.

Alongside these experiences, Elder Soares teaches about reverence, temperance, and our need to remain connected to Jesus Christ. His counsel gives us plenty to consider about how we respond under pressure, teach our children by example, and treat those around us.

Practice Temperance in Times of Suffering

“Even in the midst of His greatest agony, the Savior demonstrated perfect and divine temperance.”

Approach Sacred Things with Reverence

“Showing reverence for sacred things gives meaning to much of what we do every day and strengthens our feeling of gratitude—inspiring awe, respect, and love for higher and holier things.”

Protect Your Spiritual Foundation

“Cultivating temperance is a meaningful way to protect our souls against the subtle yet constant spiritual erosion caused by worldly influences that can weaken our foundation in Jesus Christ.”

Recognize Devotion in the Temple

“What an inspiring and motivating experience for all of us who were in the temple that day, especially for my little grandson, who was able to recognize the devotion and testimony these faithful disciples of Jesus Christ brought to the temple.”

Receive Strength from the True Vine

“Through Him, we receive strength beyond our own to not only survive the challenges of life, but to grow and thrive.”

Draw Nearer through Quiet, Consistent Acts

“Drawing nearer to Christ doesn’t remove all uncertainty from our paths, but it gives us clarity of purpose, resilience in adversity, and peace that surpasses understanding.”

Lead Your Family by Example

“Fathers who lead with humility, devotion, and a desire to follow the Savior help their families draw closer to Him.”

Find Hope beyond Separation

“I know that, through Jesus Christ, my mother’s mortal remains will one day be reunited with her spirit in a perfected and immortal body.”

Let Peace Begin with Your Choices

“We become peacemakers as we choose kindness over contention, understanding over suspicion, respect over prejudice, and love over hatred.”

Shine in Places Only You Can Reach

“As we remain anchored in Christ, He can use us as steady lights in places only we can reach.”

Growing Closer to Christ, One Choice at a Time

Throughout these messages, Elder Soares bears witness of a Savior who strengthens us in adversity, changes our hearts, and overcomes death. He encourages us to nurture that relationship through steady devotion and let its influence reach our families and communities.

As we celebrate his birthday, we can consider where his counsel might guide our next choice—a moment that calls for restraint, an opportunity to serve, or time set aside for the Lord.
