LDS Musicians, YouTubers Mourn Death of Singer Christina Grimmie

Musician Christina Grimmie, though not a member of the LDS Church herself, is being mourned deeply by many in the LDS music community. Grimmie was shot dead Friday night after performing in Florida. She was signing autographs and meeting fans when the gunman opened fire. Her brother tackled the shooter and Grimmie was pronounced dead five hours later at a local hospital. She was 22.

Grimmie, who got her start as a YouTube sensation and the third runner up on Season 6 of The Voice , was known by many LDS members in the music community.

Tiffany Alvord posted continuously throughout the night, at first praying for her safe recovery and then mourning her death.

Heaven has gained a new angel but I am so heart broken at how something so tragic can happen to someone so sweet and full of love & life. It sickens me. I know God is watching over her and we will see her again. May all our thoughts and prayers be with her family at this time. Christina, you will be dearly missed.. •This is from the night I met Christina Grimmie in 2010.. she was one of my first collaborations EVER.. when YouTube had just begun. I flew to New York to meet & work with Kurt Schneider & me & Christina knew of eachother & our dad’s had talked to arrange meeting.. We drove to NJ in the pouring rain with my family, so I could meet her and so we could sing. We were welcomed like we were part of the Grimmie family. We ate cookies and laughed hysterically while trying to record a serious take for the song and stayed up laughing til 3am. May we cherish the moments we have. She will forever be in my heart and never forgotten. ❤

Grimmie was a proud Christian. David Archuleta shared one of her covers of a beautiful Christian song, In Christ Alone.
