The first trailer for “Out of Liberty” was released today and provides a closer look at the upcoming western drama from Garett Batty, writer and director of “The Saratov Approach” and “Freetown.”

Based on first-hand recorded accounts, “Out of Liberty” follows local jailer Samuel Tillery (Jasen Wade), who is tasked with watching Missouri’s most wanted men as they await their upcoming hearing. Caught between the local Missourians’ increased drive to remove the prisoners, and the prisoners’ desperate efforts to survive, Tillery is pushed beyond what any lawman can endure.

These most wanted men, as Latter-day Saints will quickly recognize, included the prophet Joseph Smith Jr., his brother Hyrum, and four other Church leaders. They’d been arrested and falsely accused of treason.

“Out of Liberty” is set to premiere in the fall of 2019. Visit for updates.
