In a recent episode of New Heights, a podcast featuring “football’s funniest family duo,” Travis Kelce is seen sporting a jersey for Brigham Young University.
It turns out Kelce lost a friendly bet to some of his football friends who hail from the school, known for its affiliation with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.”
“We had a good gentleman’s bet in the locker room or really in the entire facility because we got a handful of BYU guys and a couple UC fellas,” Kelce said in the podcast.
The University of Cincinnati, Kelce’s alma mater, took on BYU on September 29 in Provo for the first-ever Big 12 game hosted at BYU’s LaVell Edwards Stadium.
“It was an even line just about the entire week, so we just went with the win or loss. Just straight up and sure enough, Cincinnati lost by seven. So my bet was if I lost I had to wear a BYU jersey on the show and of course, if they lost, they all had to drink a beer with me.”
Kelce then let out a hearty laugh.
“I’m kidding, they didn’t agree to that. But I did bet them, I was like you got to come to a Vegas pool party at least. They would go to that. They were up for that.”
“Well you look great in it, I’m not going to lie,” said co-host and brother Jason Kelce. Travis Kelce then showed off how they were able to get his name on the back of the jersey, which sported his number, 87. Jason questioned how they could have made the jersey so fast.
“Those Mormons work in mysterious ways,” Travis laughed.
“When you don’t drink or go to Vegas pool parties you’ve got a lot of time on your hands. Way to go! Way to go, BYU!” Jason replied.
Travis Kelce is a current tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs and is making headlines for his blossoming relationship with superstar Taylor Swift. A number of notable BYU alum join him at the Chiefs, including fellow tight end Matt Bushman on the practice squad, assistant running backs coach Porter Ellett, and head coach Andy Reid.
