Book of Mormon Come Follow Me FHE Lesson – Have Ye Experienced This Mighty Change in Your Hearts?

- Advertisment - Save on Great LDS Gifts

Alma the Younger taught that the Savior would take upon Himself all of our pains, sicknesses, and even death so He would know how to succor His people. This Book of Mormon FHE lesson helps remind us that the Savior knows what we go through and invites us to turn to Him in times of need. Our FHE lessons include three lesson plans for different ages, treat recipes, activity ideas, and more.

Alma 7:12

And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities.

Where Can I Turn for Peace? | Hymn #129

1. Where can I turn for peace?
Where is my solace
When other sources cease to make me whole?
When with a wounded heart, anger, or malice,
I draw myself apart,
Searching my soul?

2. Where, when my aching grows,
Where, when I languish,
Where, in my need to know, where can I run?
Where is the quiet hand to calm my anguish?
Who, who can understand?
He, only One.

3. He answers privately,
Reaches my reaching
In my Gethsemane, Savior and Friend.
Gentle the peace he finds for my beseeching.
Constant he is and kind,
Love without end.

Begin the lesson by figuring out an object that is deceptively heavy. We suggest a small cardboard box you’ve placed an extra weight inside. Have the children guess how much it weighs and ask them if it is heavy or light. Then, give the item to one child and tell them they have to carry it around the room. The goal is for it to feel heavy and maybe even a bit hard to carry after a few minutes.

Try to have the child describe how much the box weighs. Ask the rest of the group, after they’ve heard the explanation, if they know for sure how heavy the box is. Finally, give each child a chance to hold and carry the box. Begin the lesson.

Read aloud: Just like we carried this heavy box around, we all carry weights with us through life. We feel pain. We make mistakes. Bad things happen. Many times, others don’t understand what we’re going through. Just like this activity, if you haven’t carried the box, you don’t know how much it weighs.

However, there is someone who knows everything we go through. Jesus Christ has carried all our weights before.

Ask: How does Jesus Christ help you when you’re carrying something heavy?

Read aloud: In the Book of Mormon, Alma shares just a few of the things Christ experienced so he would know how to help us.

Read through Alma 7:11-12. Point out the things Christ experienced clearly. You may wish to make a list on a board.

Ask: Why do you think Christ experienced all of these things?

Read aloud: Alma teaches us Christ experienced these things so he would know how to help us. But he doesn’t just help us. He knows specifically what we’re going through, even when no one else does.

Ask: How can we remember to let Jesus help us?

Finish with any relevant personal experiences and by sharing your testimony.

Begin the lesson by giving everyone a notecard or piece of paper. Ask them to ponder on a trial that they feel has been hard to have others understand. Encourage them to write down some of their feelings about this trial.

Read aloud: In the Book of Mormon, Alma the Younger prophecies about the life and mission of Jesus Christ. He speaks about the things Christ will experience and why he chooses to go through them.

As a group, read Alma 7:11-13 together. Before reading, ask everyone to think about how these scriptures relate to the things they wrote down on their cards.

Ask: How does it make you feel, to know Christ experienced your pain and suffering so he could help you?

Read aloud: We all experience things that make us feel isolated and alone. There are things we go through that truly no one but Christ can understand.

Share a personal experience where Christ comforted you. Ask anyone else who feels comfortable to share as well.

Read aloud: Christ stands ready to help us. Yet, sometimes, we do not reach out to him.

Ask: Why don’t we always turn to Christ for help? How can we build our faith that Christ wants to help us?

Finish the lesson with your testimony.
