Scripture

2 Nephi 27:26

Therefore, I will proceed to do a marvelous work among this people, yea, a marvelous work and a wonder, for the wisdom of their wise and learned shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent shall be hid.

Hymn

As I Search the Holy Scriptures | Hymn #277

1. As I search the holy scriptures,
Loving Father of mankind,
May my heart be blessed with wisdom,
And may knowledge fill my mind.

2. As I search the holy scriptures,
Touch my spirit, Lord, I pray.
May life’s myst’ries be unfolded
As I study day by day.

3. As I search the holy scriptures,
May thy mercy be revealed.
Soothe my troubled heart and spirit;
May my unseen wounds be healed.

4. As I search the holy scriptures,
Help me ponder and obey.
In thy word is life eternal;
May thy light show me the way.

Lesson

FOR CHILDREN

Begin the lesson by giving every child a piece of paper and a small, lightweight book. Tell them that a single piece of paper can hold up a book. For older children, ask them to attempt to make something out of their piece of paper. For younger children, or for the sake of time, simply tell them it is possible and ask if they believe it.

To hold up a book, simply roll the piece of paper tightly into a tube. You should not need tape. You can also rip the paper very carefully in half (straight lines are needed to distribute the weight) and make two rolls. Test which method works best for your books. After wowing your children with this trick, continue the lesson.

Read aloud: The piece of paper represents the Book of Mormon. The other books represent all of the teachings of Jesus Christ. When we have the Book of Mormon, we can learn more about Jesus and his gospel.

Have someone read this line from 2 Nephi 27:26:

I will proceed to do a marvelous work among this people, yea, a marvelous work and a wonder.

Read aloud: In this scripture, the Lord tells us about the Book of Mormon.

Ask: What words did the Lord use to describe the Book of Mormon?

Read aloud: The Book of Mormon is marvelous and a wonder. Do you remember how you felt when you saw a single piece of paper held up a book? The Book of Mormon can make us feel that way too.

Ask: Why is the Book of Mormon marvelous?

Finish the lesson with your testimony.

FOR TEENS & ADULTS

Create a list on a board or give everyone something to write with so they can make a list individually. Try to focus on single words or short phrases. Answer the following question: How do you feel about the Book of Mormon.

Read aloud: The Book of Mormon is a great blessing in our lives. It is also the fulfillment of thousands of years of prophecy. Prophets throughout the ages described a book that would be brought forth before the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. For the prophets of the Book of Mormon, they knew their words would be saved for future generations.

Have someone read 2 Nephi 27:26:

Therefore, I will proceed to do a marvelous work among this people, yea, a marvelous work and a wonder, for the wisdom of their wise and learned shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent shall be hid.

Ask: What words does the Lord use to describe the Book of Mormon in this scripture?

Read aloud: Sometimes, we take the Book of Mormon for granted. We don’t always feel a sense of awe for these great words. The Lord reminds us that the Book of Mormon is marvelous and a wonder.

Ask: How can we remember how marvelous the Book of Mormon is in our lives? Has there been a time in your life when the Book of Mormon has felt this way?

Finish the lesson with your testimony.

FOR SINGLE STUDY

Make a list of all the ways the Book of Mormon has blessed your life. Ask, how has it been marvelous to you? What do you learn about Jesus Christ through these experiences?
