Book of Mormon FHE Lesson – All Things Denote There is a God

Korihor, an anti-Christ, asked Alma for a sign to prove God was real. Alma taught everything testifies of God if we are humble and willing to take a closer look at the world around us. This Book of Mormon lesson helps us realize God is everywhere and goes over how to remove distractions so we can better connect with Him.

Alma 30:44

But Alma said unto him: Thou hast had signs enough; will ye tempt your God? Will ye say, Show unto me a sign, when ye have the testimony of all these thy brethren, and also all the holy prophets? The scriptures are laid before thee, yea, and all things denote there is a God; yea, even the earth, and all things that are upon the face of it, yea, and its motion, yea, and also all the planets which move in their regular form do witness that there is a Supreme Creator.

My Heavenly Father Loves Me | Children’s Songbook, pg. 228

1. Whenever I hear the song of a bird
Or look at the blue, blue sky,
Whenever I feel the rain on my face
Or the wind as it rushes by,
Whenever I touch a velvet rose
Or walk by our lilac tree,
I’m glad that I live in this beautiful world
Heav’nly Father created for me.

2. He gave me my eyes that I might see
The color of butterfly wings.
He gave me my ears that I might hear
The magical sound of things.
He gave me my life, my mind, my heart:
I thank him rev’rently
For all his creations, of which I’m a part.
Yes, I know Heav’nly Father loves me.

Begin by giving each child a piece of paper and something to draw with. Ask them to draw their favorite thing God created. It can be plants, animals, something in the universe, or even family members. Go around the room and ask everyone to share their favorite creation and why they picked it.

Read aloud: We live in a big, beautiful world. Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ so many things, like plants and animals, oceans and mountains, and the sun, moon, and stars. However, God’s creations aren’t just about looking nice or making us happy. Everything in creation reminds us of God’s plan for us.

In the Book of Mormon, a man named Korihor was making fun of the church. He was teaching people there was no God. Alma, a prophet, taught him that there is a God and said, “all things denote there is a God.” This means everything in creation, if we pay attention, testifies of God. It shows us that God is real.

Ask: How do we find God in everything around us?

Read aloud: We can find God in everything around us by being worthy of the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost will help us feel happiness and peace. The Holy Ghost will teach us the truth. When we take the time to look for God everywhere, we will find him. We need to put away distractions.

Ask: What are some distractions we have to make it hard to find God?

Set goals as a family on how to put aside distractions and seek after God more frequently. Finish with your testimony.

Contemplate a time in your life where you found God in an unusual way. Share the experience to begin the lesson. Ask everyone to be thinking about the different ways they’ve found God.

Ask: What are some ways you’ve found God in your life?

Read aloud: As a loving father, God has provided a world full of inspiration and connection for his children. We are all different and experience God in many different ways. As we begin to look closely, we find that everything testifies of God, Jesus Christ, and the divine plan of happiness.

Read through Alma 30:43-44.

Ask: Why wasn’t Korihor able to accept the signs of God as found in the world around him? How do we sometimes do the same thing?

Read aloud: We live in a loud world, full of distractions and contention. It can be hard to slow down and focus on connecting with God through his Son, Jesus Christ. We often want very loud answers, forgetting that God often speaks to us in unique ways that can be easy to miss if we aren’t paying attention.

Ask: What can we do to connect with God through all of his creations?

Finish the lesson with any other personal experiences and by bearing your testimony.
