Book of Mormon FHE Lesson – “Free to Choose Liberty and Eternal Life, through the Great Mediator”

- Advertisment - Save on Great LDS Gifts

As Lehi nears the end of his life he gathers his family and bears his testimony to them one last time. In this Come, Follow Me FHE lesson, you will learn more about the Plan of Happiness. Our FHE lessons include three lesson plans for different ages, treat recipes, activity ideas, and more.

2 Nephi 2:27

Wherefore, men are free according to the flesh; and all things are given them which are expedient unto man. And they are free to choose liberty and eternal life, through the great Mediator of all men, or to choose captivity and death, according to the captivity and power of the devil; for he seeketh that all men might be miserable like unto himself.

Choose the Right | Hymns, no. 239

1.Choose the right when a choice is placed before you.

In the right the Holy Spirit guides;

And its light is forever shining o’er you,

When in the right your heart confides.

Choose the right! Choose the right!

Let wisdom mark the way before.

In its light, choose the right!

And God will bless you evermore.

2.Choose the right! Let no spirit of digression

Overcome you in the evil hour.

There’s the right and the wrong to ev’ry question;

Be safe thru inspiration’s pow’r.

Choose the right! Choose the right!

Let wisdom mark the way before.

In its light, choose the right!

And God will bless you evermore.

3.Choose the right! There is peace in righteous doing.

Choose the right! There’s safety for the soul.

Choose the right in all labors you’re pursuing;

Let God and heaven be your goal.

Choose the right! Choose the right!

Let wisdom mark the way before.

In its light, choose the right!

And God will bless you evermore.

Activity: Help the children make a paper chain. On each of the slips of paper write something satan tempts us to do.

Scripture: Read 2 Nephi 1:13, 15, 23 and have the children act out shaking off the chains.

Ask: How is a sin like a chain?

Scripture: Read 2 Nephi 1:20

Read: God has given us the freedom to make choices, to distinguish between right and wrong. If we choose to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ and keep God’s commandments, we will be blessed in our lives. However, if we choose to disobey His commandments, we will be turning away from God. This may lead to feelings of guilt and heaviness due to the consequences of our actions.

Ask: How can we shake off the chains of sin?

Read: Through the atonement of Jesus Christ, we can be forgiven of our sins and set free from our chains.

Testimony: Close with your testimony.

Scripture:  Read 2 Nephi 2:15–28 and make a list of truths about the Garden of Eden and the Fall.

Ask: Discuss the answers to the following questions:

  • Why was the Fall necessary?
  • What role did Jesus Christ play in overcoming the effects of the Fall?
  • How does correctly understanding the Fall help us better understand our need for Jesus Christ?

Read: As a group read the talkThe Great Plan of Happiness,” by Dallin H. Oaks.

Ask: What did you learn about the Plan of Happiness from this conference talk?

Testimony: Close with your testimony.

Study 2 Nephi 2:1–4, 6–25, and look for words or phrases that are powerful to you. Then read and study Dale G. Renlund’s message “Infuriating Unfairness” and think of ways God can turn trials into blessings.
