Book of Mormon Come Follow Me FHE Lesson – The Lord Labors With Us

- Advertisment - Save on Great LDS Gifts

As Jacob shares the allegory of the olive trees, we learn about the Lord’s great work. In this Book of Mormon lesson, you’ll learn about how the Lord both includes us and supports us in sharing the gospel and serving others. Our FHE lessons include three lesson plans for different ages, treat recipes, activity ideas, and more.

Jacob 5:72

And it came to pass that the servants did go and labor with their mights; and the Lord of the vineyard labored also with them; and they did obey the commandments of the Lord of the vineyard in all things.

Go Forth with Faith | Hymn #263

1. Go forth with faith to tell the world
Of Jesus Christ, the Lord.
Bear witness he is God’s own Son;
Proclaim his wondrous word.
Go forth with hope and courage strong
To spread the word abroad
That people of all nations
Are children of our God.

2. Go forth with love to tell the world
The joy of families–
That we may be with those we love
Thru all eternity.
Go forth to serve and do your best
With no thought of reward;
Then you shall know the boundless joy
Of serving Christ, the Lord.

3. Go forth with pow’r to tell the world
The gospel is restored,
That all may gain eternal life
Thru Jesus Christ, the Lord.
Go forth to preach his glorious truths
Of peace, of joy, and love,
That all who heed his holy word
May praise the Lord above.

Begin the lesson with the following activity. Have one child be assigned as a farmer. Give all the other children or family members objects to act as fruit or vegetables. When someone holds up the object, they say “harvest.” Have them hold up the objects every three seconds. The goal is to have everyone saying harvest in a round. The farmer needs to go and gather all those objects in a basket, but it should be hard to keep up. Randomly, point to a person and give them a problem or new activity, such as “this plan is on fire and needs to be watered” or “this plant is growing too tall and needs to be trimmed.” The farmer must stop and take care of the plants by standing by the person and waiting for three seconds.

Once everyone is out of things to harvest or a certain amount of time has passed, repeat the activity, but have two people help the farmer. The goal of this activity is to illustrate that the Lord helps us do his work.

Read aloud: Heavenly Father wants to bring all of His children home to Him. We are blessed that He has asked us to help Him. He has given us many important jobs to do to help in his work.

Ask: What are some ways Heavenly Father has asked us to help Him? [sharing the gospel, serving others, keeping the commandments as an example to others]

Read aloud: As our activity showed us, sometimes it can be hard and overwhelming to do what Heavenly Father asks us to do. But we have help! Heavenly Father works with us. Just as the activity was easier when we worked together, Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are right there beside us.

Ask: How can we rely on Heavenly Father’s help to share the gospel? [praying to know who to help, finding bravery in speaking up, knowing what to say]

Finish the lesson with your testimony.

Begin the lesson by making a list together of all the things Heavenly Father has asked of us. You can write the list on a board, a piece of paper, or just as a spoken list. If you’d like, give everyone a minute to write their own list before sharing together.

Ask: What is the ultimate purpose of everything Heavenly Father asks us to do?

Read aloud: Heavenly Father cares deeply about the salvation and exaltation of His children. His work and His glory is to not only bring us home to Him, but to change our very natures to be celestial. One vital way we do this is by assisting Heavenly Father in this work.

Have someone read Jacob 5:72:

And it came to pass that the servants did go and labor with their mights; and the Lord of the vineyard labored also with them; and they did obey the commandments of the Lord of the vineyard in all things.

Ask: Why should this scripture give us hope as we do the Lord’s work?

Share a personal experience when the Lord helped you do His work. Ask others to share their experiences.

Ask: How can we rely on the Lord’s help in sharing the gospel?

Finish the lesson with your testimony.

Read through Jacob 5. As you read, make a chart of the symbols used [the master of the vineyard, the servant, the natural olive trees, etc.] and study about what these symbols represent. Strive to place yourself in the story. Make one goal on how to share the gospel in the upcoming week.
