Doctrine and Covenants FHE Lesson – All Things Must Be Done in Order

- Advertisment - LDS Bookstore Jewelry

Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ taught early Church leaders how to do all things in order. This Doctrine and Covenants FHE lesson shows us how we can grow our testimonies by following and believing in the organization of the Church and the steps of gospel living.

Scripture

Doctrine and Covenants 28:13

For all things must be done in order, and by common consent in the church, by the prayer of faith.

Hymn

How Gentle God’s Commands| Hymn #125

1. How gentle God’s commands!
How kind his precepts are!
Come, cast your burdens on the Lord
And trust his constant care.

2. Beneath his watchful eye,
His Saints securely dwell;
That hand which bears all nature up
Shall guard his children well.

3. Why should this anxious load
Press down your weary mind?
Haste to your Heav’nly Father’s throne
And sweet refreshment find.

4. His goodness stands approved,
Unchanged from day to day;
I’ll drop my burden at his feet
And bear a song away.

Lesson

FOR CHILDREN

Begin the lesson by showing the children a simple recipe for one of their favorite treats. If time permits, make it together. If time does not allow, make the treat ahead of time and talk about why it is important to follow a recipe.

Read aloud: Just like we need to follow a recipe to make a yummy treat, our Heavenly Parents ask us to live the gospel in an orderly way. For example, we need to partake of the sacrament in a certain way. We are baptized first and given the gift of the Holy Ghost after. We raise our hands and sustain people who are given callings.

Ask: Why do you think Heavenly Father wants us to do things in order?

Read aloud: When we follow the guidance of our Heavenly Parents, our testimonies grow stronger. Heavenly Father doesn’t want us to be confused. He wants us to draw closer to Jesus Christ. When we do things in order, we have a straight path to Jesus.

Finish the lesson by talking about some things your family can do to be more orderly. Examples include preparing for the sacrament, praying daily, and preparing for future ordinances.

FOR TEENS & ADULTS

Begin the lesson by asking everyone to share something they’ve practiced and trained to do. This could include learning how to drive a car, participate in a sport, or a skill they’ve developed. Ask why it was important that they trained first.

Read aloud: As Joseph Smith and other early Church leaders worked to build the kingdom of God, they were continually instructed to do all things in order. This included how to perform ordinances, such as the sacrament, and how revelation was to be received.

When a man named Hiram Page claimed to have a seer stone like Joseph, the Lord said in a revelation that Hiram had been deceived.

Have someone read Doctrine and Covenants 28:11-13.

Ask: How can we relate this experience to our day? Can you think of any modern-day examples?

Finish the lesson by sharing any personal experiences and bearing your testimony.

FOR SINGLE STUDY

Read through the gospel essay, “All Things Must Be Done in Order.”

Write down why the structure and organization of the Church are so important. Ponder on ways you can sustain those who have been called to lead your ward or branch.
