- Advertisment - Save on Great LDS Gifts

Part of the restoration of the priesthood included revealing information about the organization and the offices of the priesthood. This FHE lesson on the priesthood helps us understand why this organization is important to us today.

Hymn

The Fifth Article of Faith | Children’s Sonbook pg. #125

We believe that a man must be called of God,
by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands
by those who are in authority,
to preach the Gospel and administer
in the ordinances thereof.

FOR CHILDREN

Begin the lesson by giving the children the coloring page available to print off in this lesson. As they color, ask them what they know about the priesthood.

Read aloud: The priesthood is the power of God. The priesthood was restored by Joseph Smith and he taught us about how it is organized. There are lots of different jobs in the priesthood, but they are all designed to help build the kingdom of God.

Ask: What are some of the jobs you know about in the priesthood? Discuss any callings a priesthood family member may have.

Show a few pictures that represent some of the blessings of the priesthood, such as baptism, temples, and the sacrament. Ask why they are thankful for each one.

Bear your testimony that we can receive many blessings because of the priesthood.

FOR TEENS & ADULTS

Begin the lesson by watching the following video. Ask everyone to think about what the development of priesthood authority teaches us about the nature of God.

Ask: What does Joseph Smith’s experience with the priesthood teach us about God?

Read aloud: In Doctrine and Covenants 107, we begin to see priesthood offices develop, including the First Presidency, the Twelve Apostles, the Seventies, and Bishops.

Go through each of these offices and ask what they know about them and how they have blessed your individual lives. Finish with your testimony of the priesthood.

FOR SINGLE STUDY

Read through Doctrine and Covenants 107. Write down specific duties of each office or calling. Consider how you can uphold those in these callings and better sustain them in your everyday life.

Book of Mormon Reading Race

Have everyone get a copy of the Book of Mormon. Choose one person to start with. The person who is chosen to be it opens up to a random spot in the Book of Mormon and begins reading. The first person to then find where they are reading and begin reading along gets a point. The next person then opens up and starts it over. Play as long as you’d like or until everyone has had the chance to go three times.
