Doctrine and Covenants FHE Lesson – The Word of Wisdom

- Advertisment - Save on Great LDS Gifts

The Word of Wisdom is a principle with a promise. In this Doctrine and Covenants FHE lesson, learn more about how the Word of Wisdom can strengthen our relationship with Jesus Christ.

Doctrine and Covenants 89:18

And all saints who remember to keep and do these sayings, walking in obedience to the commandments, shall receive health in their navel and marrow to their bones.

The Word of Wisdom | Children’s Songbook pg. 154

1. The Lord has revealed the Word of Wisdom to Joseph Smith the Prophet.
If we obey, and follow in faith, beautiful blessings are promised:

2. A clean body, a clear mind, a spirit in tune with the Lord;
These are promised to all who follow the word and will of God.

Begin the lesson by watching the following video.

Ask: What did you learn about the Word of Wisdom from this video?

Read aloud: Our Heavenly Parents want our bodies to be healthy and strong. When we follow the Word of Wisdom, we are promised we will have strength and wisdom. We can do good things when our bodies are healthy. We can run. We can play. We can dance. We can serve. We can sleep. We can think clearly. We can help others.

Ask: What is one thing you love that your body can do?

Discuss one thing as a family you can work on when it comes to living the Word of Wisdom. If in a non-family setting, ask about one healthy thing each child wants to work on. Finish with your testimony.

Begin the lesson by reading Doctrine and Covenants 89 together and then making a list of all the things we can do and enjoy with a healthy body.

Read aloud: In today’s world, we talk a lot about our bodies. How do they look? How much do they weigh? What do clothes look like on them? What can we do to make them look more attractive? Our Heavenly Parents have a different attitude when it comes to our bodies.

Ask: What does Doctrine and Covenants 89 teach us about how God feels about our bodies?

Read aloud: Our bodies are special and holy. We should treat them with respect and strive to keep them healthy. A healthy body and mind help us connect more with God and bring to pass much righteousness.

Ask: What are some of the blessings of striving for a healthy body and mind? What can we do to live the Word of Wisdom more fully in our lives?

Share a personal experience about the Word of Wisdom and close with your testimony.
