Hymn

Give Said the Little Stream | Children’s Songbook, pg. 236

1. “Give,” said the little stream,
“Give, oh! give, give, oh! give.”
“Give,” said the little stream,
As it hurried down the hill;
“I’m small, I know, but wherever I go
The fields grow greener still.”

Singing, singing all the day,
“Give away, oh! give away.”
Singing, singing all the day,
“Give, oh! give away.”

2. “Give,” said the little rain,
“Give, oh! give, give, oh! give.”
“Give,” said the little rain,
As it fell upon the flow’rs;
“I’ll raise their drooping heads again,”
As it fell upon the flow’rs.

Singing, singing all the day,
“Give away, oh! give away.”
Singing, singing all the day,
“Give, oh! give away.”

3. Give, then, as Jesus gives,
Give, oh! give, give, oh! give.
Give, then, as Jesus gives;
There is something all can give.
Do as the streams and blossoms do:
For God and others live.

Singing, singing all the day,
“Give away, oh! give away.”
Singing, singing all the day,
“Give, oh! give away.”

Lesson

FOR CHILDREN

Begin the lesson with the following activity.

Have a bowl of small treats, such as M&Ms, Skittles, or Goldfish. Only give out treats to half of your children or your group.

Ask the children who have the treat how they feel. Then, ask those without a treat to describe how they feel. Have a discussion on what the children can do so everyone has a treat. Lead the discussion towards sharing. Finish the activity by ensuring everyone has a treat to munch on during the rest of the lesson.

Read aloud: When we share something, we give it to another person so they can enjoy it. Sometimes, we do not get anything in return. Sometimes, we do not even get the item back. Sharing can be hard. We do not like to feel like were are losing something.

But Heavenly Father loves sharing. In fact, Heavenly Father shares everything He has with us.

Ask: What are some things Heavenly Father shares with us? [possible answers include the Holy Ghost, grace, families, the ability to learn, blessings]

Read aloud: Everything good we have comes from Heavenly Father. The most important thing He has given us is His Son, Jesus Christ. He didn’t just share Jesus with us; He gave us all of Christ. Because of Jesus Christ, we get to be with our families forever and become better.

We have so much! So, Heavenly Father wants us to share our blessings with others. When we share we help others feel loved and happy.

Ask: What are some things we can share with others?

Share a personal experience where you shared something and it made you happy.

Ask: How can we do a better job sharing?

Finish the lesson with your testimony.

FOR TEENS & ADULTS

Begin the lesson by making a list. Ask everyone to answer the question, “What has Heavenly Father shared with you?”

Read aloud: Heavenly Father shares everything He has with us. Through obedience to the gospel of Jesus Christ and the grace of God, we can share in eternal glory and progression. It is very clear that Heavenly Father shares freely with all of His children. However, we struggle to share. Even though we may not kick and cry like little children do when asked to share their favorite toy, we often have very strong emotional reactions to the ideas of sharing.

Ask: What are some things God wants us to share? Why can it be difficult to do so?

Watch the following video and ask everyone to think about why sharing gospel happiness with others is important.

Ask: How can we do a better job of sharing gospel happiness with others?

Share personal experiences about sharing the gospel and any other examples of sharing with others. Finish the lesson with your testimony.

FOR SINGLE STUDY

Read through your patriarchal blessing and write down all of the things God has shared with you or promises to share with you. Ask yourself how you can do a better job sharing with others and make a plan to serve someone that night.

FHE Game / ActivityActivity

Balloon Toss

You’ll need balloons, paper plates, and popsicle sticks for this game. Securely attach a popsicle stick to each paper plate with glue or tape. Blow up each balloon. Use each paper plate racquet to toss the balloons back and forth to each other. If you’ve enough people, split into pairs and see who can keep the balloon going for longest.
