1 Peter 3:8
Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous.

I’m Trying to Be Like Jesus, Children’s Songbook Pg. #78
1. I’m trying to be like Jesus;
I’m following in his ways.
I’m trying to love as he did, in all that I do and say.
At times I am tempted to make a wrong choice,
But I try to listen as the still small voice whispers,

“Love one another as Jesus loves you.
Try to show kindness in all that you do.
Be gentle and loving in deed and in thought,
For these are the things Jesus taught.”

2. I’m trying to love my neighbor;
I’m learning to serve my friends.
I watch for the day of gladness when Jesus will come again.
I try to remember the lessons he taught.
Then the Holy Spirit enters into my thoughts, saying:

*Suitable for All Ages*

Read aloud: In the 13th Article of Faith, we are invited to not only seek after things that are good, but also to be good. The first line reads, “We believe in being, honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men.”

In our day to day lives, one of the ways we can show our respect for others is by having manners and showing courtesy.

Ask: What are manners?

Read aloud: We practice good manners when we show love, respect, and gratitude to those around us. Our Heavenly Father is happy when we strive to use good manners with all of his children. By using good manners, we are showing that we understand that everyone is a child of God and deserves to be treated with kindness.

While many different places around the world have different rules about manners, we are going to discuss some basic ways we can be polite and show courtesy with our friends, family, neighbors, and peers.

Ask: What are some examples of good manners? [Saying please and thank you, holding a door open for someone, listening when someone else is speaking, offering your seat to someone who is elderly, appropriate social media/phone use. For younger children, you can role-play when you’d use polite phrases and following school rules.]

Read aloud: While it is important to have manners, it is also important to understand why they are important and have them come from the heart.

Ask: What are some reasons Heavenly Father wants us to practice good manners?

Read aloud: Using good manners tells someone how you feel about them. It shows the respect and gratitude you have for that person.

Finish by sharing any experiences you have about when using good manners made a difference to you or someone else. Bear your testimony about how manners and Christ are related in your mind.

FHE Game / Activity

Mother May I

One person is chosen to be on or Mother.
The rest of you must stand in a line facing them a short distance away. The aim of the game is for you to cross the space and touch Mother. But you can only move one at a time following the instructions given by Mother.

Mother will give an instruction to each person in turn such as “Grace, take one giant and three baby steps.”
Grace must say “May I?”
And then take her steps as told.

(OR you can ask mother–ex: “Mother may I take 2 Giant steps forward?” and mother responds either: “Yes you may” or “No you may not.”)

If you forget to say “May I?” or don’t do the steps correctly you have to go back to the start.

The first one to reach Mother becomes the next Mother.
