Scripture

D&C 1:38
What I the Lord have spoken, I have spoken, and I excuse not myself; and though the heavens and the earth pass away, my word shall not pass away, but shall all be fulfilled, whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same.

Hymn

Hark, All Ye Nations, Hymn #264

1. Hark, all ye nations!
Hear heaven’s voice
Thru ev’ry land that all may rejoice!
Angels of glory shout the refrain:
Truth is restored again!

(Chorus)
Oh, how glorious from the throne above
Shines the gospel light of truth and love!
Bright as the sun, this heavenly ray
Lights ev’ry land today.

2. Searching in darkness, nations have wept;
Watching for dawn, their vigil they’ve kept.
All now rejoice; the long night is o’er.
Truth is on earth once more!

(Chorus)

3. Chosen by God to serve him below,
To ev’ry land and people we’ll go,
Standing for truth with fervent accord,
Teaching his holy word.

(Chorus)

Lesson

*Suitable for All Ages*

Read aloud: Today, we are going to talk about Jesus Christ and how Joseph Smith taught us very important things about Him and His gospel.

Ask: What do you know about Jesus Christ? (You can have your family create a list on a board or a piece of paper.)

Read aloud: Knowing who Jesus Christ is helps us make good choices and become good people. When we understand Christ and His gospel, we can love ourselves and love others.

When Joseph Smith was a boy, people had a hard time understanding who Jesus Christ was and what His teachings meant. Many people were confused and fought about what they believed. Even Joseph had questions. Heavenly Father called Joseph to be a prophet so the world could know the truth about Christ and His gospel. Because of Joseph Smith, we have a lot of blessings and knowledge that always point us back to Jesus Christ.

Create a list of gospel principles revealed through Joseph Smith and ask how they related to Jesus. A few examples can be found below. For older groups, you can ask what they have learned about Jesus Christ through the Restoration of the Gospel.

The Book of Mormon – The Book of Mormon is another testament of Christ. We get to learn all about Christ’s gospel and because of the Book of Mormon we known Jesus Christ is the Savior of the whole world.
Temple WorkIn temples, we learn about Christ’s role in the Plan of Salvation. We make covenants, or promises, to follow Christ.
PriesthoodThe priesthood is the power of God to do His will. With the priesthood, we can serve others as Christ served and have His authority to help the world.
Word of Wisdom – The Word of Wisdom is a law of health that keeps our bodies and minds strong and healthy. With strong bodies and minds, we have more power to choose the right and help others come unto Christ.

Read aloud: Many times, people wonder why we think Joseph Smith is so important. While he was jut a normal person like you and me who made mistakes, he worked very hard to bring the world the truth about Jesus Christ. For that we are very grateful.

Ask: Why are you grateful for Joseph Smith?

Finish the lesson by bearing your testimony of Joseph Smith and Jesus Christ. Share any personal experiences you might have had.

Easy Mozzarella Sticks

Ingredients:
-12 sticks part-skim mozzarella string cheese
-1 large egg
-1/4 cup flour
-1/4 cup Italian seasoned breadcrumbs
-1/4 cup panko breadcrumbs
-2 teaspoons parmesan cheese
-1 Tablespoon dried parsley
-Nonstick cooking spray
-Marinara sauce and/or Ranch dressing, for serving

Directions:

Remove wrappers and cut cheese in half to give you 24 pieces. Freeze cheese until hard and frozen, about 30 minutes.

In three separate shallow dishes, place egg, flour and breadcrumbs, each in their own dish. Whisk egg. To breadcrumbs dish, add panko, parmesan and parsley.

Line a large baking sheet with aluminum foil and spray with nonstick cooking spray. Dip frozen cheese sticks in flour, shaking off excess, then into the egg, then coat with the crumbs. Repeat for each cheese stick, placing them on the lined baking sheet. Freeze on sheet at least 15 minutes, or until ready to bake (this is a must or they will melt before the crumbs get golden).

When ready to bake, preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Arrange oven rack in the bottom third of your oven.

Bake 4 to 5 minutes, turn sticks over, and bake an additional 4-5 minutes, watching sticks closely so they don’t melt. Serve hot with marinara sauce or Ranch dressing for dipping.
