New Testament Come Follow Me FHE Lesson – “I Can Do All Things through Christ Which Strengtheneth Me”

- Advertisment - Save on Great LDS Gifts

Paul writes to the Philippians and Colossians while in prison in Rome. However, his messages are filled with joy and gratitude. In this Come, Follow Me FHE lesson, you will learn more about being “rooted” in Christ and finding joy and strength through His atonement. Our FHE lessons include three lesson plans for different ages, treat recipes, activity ideas, and more.

Philippians 4:13

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Rejoice, the Lord Is King! | Hymn #66

1. Rejoice, the Lord is King!
Your Lord and King adore!
Mortals, give thanks and sing
And triumph evermore.

Lift up your heart! Lift up your voice!
Rejoice, again I say, rejoice!
Lift up your heart! Lift up your voice!
Rejoice, again I say, rejoice!

2. The Lord, the Savior, reigns,
The God of truth and love.
When he had purged our stains,
He took his seat above.

3. His kingdom cannot fail;
He rules o’er earth and heav’n.
The keys of death and hell
To Christ the Lord are giv’n.

Video: Watch this video on the importance of being “rooted” in Christ.

Ask: What would happen to the tree if it did not have strong roots when the storm came?

Scripture: Read Colossians 1:23; 2:6–7 together.

Activity: Draw a tree on the board or show a picture of a tree with roots. Ask the children what they can do to become “rooted” in Christ. For every answer the children come up with add another root to the picture.

Share: Tell the children about a time when you had to rely on the roots of your testimony through “spiritual whirlwinds.”

Read: We can become “rooted” in Christ as we exercise faith in Him. When we are deeply “rooted” in the gospel of Jesus Christ we will be able to withstand the storms of life.

Testimony: Close with your testimony.

Video: Watch this video of the 2023 youth theme song.

Ask: What is your favorite line from this song? Why do you like it?

Scripture: Read Philippians 4:4–13

Ask: What do you learn about joy in these verses?

Share: Share an experience when you were able to find joy in a difficult time of your life.

Read: Through Christ, we can do all things. We can find peace, contentment, and joy even in the darkest times of our lives. President Russell M. Nelson has stated, “When the focus of our lives is on … Jesus Christ and His gospel, we can feel joy regardless of what is happening—or not happening—in our lives. Joy comes from and because of Him.”

Ask: What has Christ helped you to be able to do in your life?

Testimony: Close with your testimony about how Christ gives you strength.

This week consider what you have sacrificed for Christ, and what more you could sacrifice. Read about Paul’s sacrifices in Philippians 3:4–14. You can learn more about sacrifice by studying the talk “One More Day” by Elder Taylor G. Godoy.
