Jesus Christ gave His Apostles the power to preach to and bless others. This New Testament FHE lesson helps us better understand how we can access the power of God to do His work. Each of our FHE lessons includes three lesson plans for different ages, treat recipes, activity ideas, and more.
And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.
1. Go forth with faith to tell the world
Of Jesus Christ, the Lord.
Bear witness he is God’s own Son;
Proclaim his wondrous word.
Go forth with hope and courage strong
To spread the word abroad
That people of all nations
Are children of our God.
2. Go forth with love to tell the world
The joy of families—
That we may be with those we love
Thru all eternity.
Go forth to serve and do your best
With no thought of reward;
Then you shall know the boundless joy
Of serving Christ, the Lord.
3. Go forth with pow’r to tell the world
The gospel is restored,
That all may gain eternal life
Thru Jesus Christ, the Lord.
Go forth to preach his glorious truths
Of peace, of joy, and love,
That all who heed his holy word
May praise the Lord above.
Activity: Begin the lesson by giving the children a flashlight without batteries. Ask them if they know what it is and what it is used for. Have them try to make it work and figure out why it isn’t. Then, provide the batteries and have them turn the flashlight on.
Picture: Hold up a picture of Jesus ordaining the Apostles to preach the gospel, like this one.
Read: Jesus called Twelve Apostles to share the gospel with others. He wanted the Apostles to share His love and hope. He gave them the power to perform miracles. They needed His power before they left. The power Jesus gave them is like the batteries in the flashlight. Today, Jesus asks us to shine our lights to help others.
Ask: How can you shine your light?
Share: Tell a story about when you were given power by Christ to serve someone.
Read: Jesus will help you as you try to help others. Always look for good things to do. As we choose the right, we will feel Jesus’ power.
Testimony: Close the lesson with your testimony of Christ’s guiding influence to help us.
FOR TEENS & ADULTS
Video: Begin the lesson by watching the following video. Before pressing play, ask everyone to ponder on what this video teaches us about the power of God.
Ask: What does this video teach us about the power of God?
Read: As He sent His Apostles forth to preach the gospel, Jesus gave them both instruction and power. This power helped them fulfill their missions to share the truth with others and to perform mighty miracles. Just as the Apostles were commissioned by Christ for specific missions, we are called to serve as well.
Ask: What are some of the things God has called us to do? What blessings or miracles have you experienced as you’ve tried to serve in the way God has called you to?
Read: Jesus does not leave us alone in our quest to do His work. Our missions and callings will be varied and will look different than those of the Apostles. But we have access to His power and guidance.
Share: Tell about a time when you were able to feel the power of God helping you serve or do good. Invite others to do the same.
Ask: How do we invite the power of God into our lives?
Testimony: Share your testimony to close the lesson.
FOR SINGLE STUDY
