New Testament Come Follow Me FHE Lesson – The Holy Ghost is My Comforter

- Advertisment - Save on Great LDS Gifts

In times of fear or worry, the Holy Ghost can comfort us. In this Come Follow Me FHE lesson, we talk about what it means to be comforted by the Spirit and how we can keep it close with us. Each of our FHE lessons includes three lesson plans for different ages, treat recipes, activity ideas, and more.

John 14:26

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

The Holy Ghost | Children’s Songbook, page 105

1. When Christ was on the earth,
He promised he would send
The Holy Ghost to comfort us,
Our true, eternal friend.
The Holy Spirit whispers
With a still small voice.
He testifies of God and Christ
And makes our hearts rejoice.

2. And when we are confirmed
By sacred priesthood pow’r,
The Holy Ghost is giv’n to us
To guide us ev’ry hour.
Oh, may I always listen
To that still small voice.
And with his light I’ll do what’s right
Each time I make a choice.

Activity: Begin the lesson by asking the children to gather something that comforts them when they are scared or worried. Blankets, stuffed animals, or other favorite toys are a great option. Have each child tell you about the object they picked.

Read: Heavenly Father wants to help us when we feel scared or worried. He has given us a very special gift to comfort us. It is the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost brings us peace, guidance, and comfort. Heavenly Father and Jesus knew they wouldn’t be able to be with us on earth. They wanted to make sure we had someone who could always be with us. The Holy Ghost can always be with us.

Share: Tell the children about a time in your life when the Holy Ghost reassured you.

Ask: What are some of the jobs of the Holy Ghost?

Read: The Holy Ghost is our comforter. The Holy Ghost guides us and helps us make decisions. The Holy Ghost testifies of truth. We should try to live so we can always have the Holy Ghost with us.

Ask: What are some ways we can invite the Holy Ghost to be with us?

Testimony: Close with your testimony of the Holy Ghost.

Video: Begin the lesson by watching this video about the Holy Ghost. Ask everyone to think about the question it asks at the beginning of the video.

Ask: How has the Spirit been a comfort in your life?

Read: Through the Holy Ghost’s comforting presence, we find strength, courage, and the assurance that our Heavenly Father is aware of our challenges and cares for us deeply. As we open our hearts and seek the companionship of the Holy Ghost, He becomes a source of deep and abiding comfort, providing the peace that surpasses all understanding.

Ask: Why can it be hard to feel comforted by the Spirit?

Share: Tell a personal story about when you struggled to connect with the Spirit and what helped you.

Scripture: Read John 14:26 together. Discuss what the verses teach us about how the Holy Ghost can help us. If time permits, look up the scriptures in the Topical Guide under “Holy Ghost, Comforter.”

Testimony: Close with your testimony of the Holy Ghost.

Read through “The Comforter” by President Henry B. Eyring. As you read through the examples given by President Eyring, ponder on times in your own life when you’ve felt comforted by the Spirit.
