The gospel of Jesus Christ is for everyone! God is no respecter of persons. In this Come Follow Me FHE lesson, you’ll learn about our identity as Christians and how we can invite others into the fold. Our FHE lessons include three lesson plans for different ages, treat recipes, activity ideas, and more.
Scripture
But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.
Hymn
I’ll Walk with You | Children’s Songbook
If you don’t walk as most people do,
Some people walk away from you,
But I won’t! I won’t!
If you don’t talk as most people do,
Some people talk and laugh at you,
But I won’t! I won’t!
I’ll walk with you. I’ll talk with you.
That’s how I’ll show my love for you.
Jesus walked away from none.
He gave his love to ev’ryone.
So I will! I will!
Jesus blessed all he could see,
Then turned and said, “Come, follow me.”
And I will! I will!
I will! I will!
I’ll walk with you. I’ll talk with you.
That’s how I’ll show my love for you.
Lesson
FOR CHILDREN
Activity: Begin the lesson by inviting the children to draw a picture of themselves. Ask the children to share their pictures with the group. As each child shares, tell them something you love about them.
Read: Heavenly Father loves each of His children, no matter where they are from, how old they are, what they look like, or what choices they make. We are all children of God, so we know that he loves us. In the bible, we learn that some people did not believe that God would bless and love everyone. Peter teaches these people that God really does love all his children.
Scripture: Ask one of the children to read Acts 10:34-35
Ask: Can you know someone just by looking at them?
Read: We can not really know a person until we spend time with them. God is our Father and knows each of His children perfectly. In these verses, we learn that God accepts everyone. This teaches us that we should try to refrain from judging others and instead try to be more accepting.
Share: Tell the children about an experience you have had when you have felt God’s love
Testimony: Close with your testimony.
FOR TEENS & ADULTS
Scripture: Begin the lesson by reading Acts 11:26 together.
Ask: What does it mean to be a Christian?
Read: When someone is called a Christian they are taking upon themselves the name of Christ. This is significant. One of the covenants we make during the sacrament is to take upon us the name of Christ and always remember him.
Ask: Why is it significant that we choose to be a representative of Christ?
Read: Full-time missionaries take upon themselves the name of Christ as they wear name badges and commit their lives fully to Christ and his work. We may not be wearing Christ’s name on a badge every day, but we can still show others that we are representatives of him.
Ask: What are some ways we can show others that we are committed to being Christians?
Share: Tell everyone about someone you know that is a great example of what it means to be a true Christian.
Scripture: Read Doctrine & Covenants 115:4
Ask: Why is it important that we call the Church by its correct name, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?
Testimony: Close with your testimony.
