The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints made a major update for the 2024 Come, Follow Me manual, combining all manual resources into a single book.

Used for at-home and in-church learning, the manual focuses on the Book of Mormon. The Church said, “This resource is for anyone who wants to learn from the Book of Mormon—individually, as a family, and in Church classes. If you haven’t studied the scriptures regularly in the past, this resource can help you get started. If you already have a good habit of scripture study, this resource can help you have more meaningful experiences.”

Here are some tips to help you use the new manual layout at home and at church.

Seek Your Own Personal Spiritual Experiences

The Prayer" Is a Song of Safety and Inspiration

The new manual makes it clear that the first and foremost way to use the contents for your own personal scripture study. By seeking personal spiritual experiences with the help of the manual, you will be better prepared to follow the guidance of the Holy Ghost in teaching others.

The manual states, “As you study, follow the Spirit’s guidance to find eternal truths that are meaningful to you. Look for God’s messages for you, and follow the promptings you receive.”

As advice for teachers it says, “As you prepare to teach, start by having your own experiences in the scriptures. Your most important preparation will occur as you search the scriptures and seek the inspiration of the Holy Ghost.”

Look for Helpful Icons & Indicators

Come, Follow Me' 2024 Curriculum Simplifies From 4 Manuals to 1

Though all of the manuals are now combined, the Church has provided helpful icons in each week’s outline to help families and teachers know what may be relevant to certain groups.

For example, each week has a special section called “Ideas for Teaching Children.” You’ll also find a small blue book icon in the main outline that indicates the principle and activity are especially good for youth.

The Church has still provides a section on the website called Addition Resources for Teaching Children that are designed for Primary-aged children.

There’s an increase in images and art, as well as hymn and song ideas.

Utilize Church Magazines

Changes Are Coming to Church Magazines in 2021

The Liahona, For the Strength of Youth, and Friend magazines all have additional resources to help supplement the official manual. They include more stories, scripture explanations, activities, artwork, and more. Make sure to utilize them in your personal study, family study, and church teaching.

Mike Madsen, a product manager for the Church, told Church news the effort to simplify from four manuals to one gave his team a chance to review the previous manuals and create something that could be useful by all Church members in any setting.

“We took the four manuals …, and we combined the best ideas from all of them. And if you compare each of these new manuals to what we used to have, we feel it is an improvement in each case.”

What are you looking forward to in a new year of study?
