This FHE lesson on gratitude focuses on generating deep and lasting feels of love and thankfulness for Jesus Christ.
Scripture
Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
Hymn
The Holy Ghost | Children’s Songbook pg. 105
1. I stand all amazed at the love Jesus offers me,
Confused at the grace that so fully he proffers me.
I tremble to know that for me he was crucified,
That for me, a sinner, he suffered, he bled and died.
Oh, it is wonderful that he should care for me
Enough to die for me!
Oh, it is wonderful, wonderful to me!
2. I marvel that he would descend from his throne divine
To rescue a soul so rebellious and proud as mine,
That he should extend his great love unto such as I,
Sufficient to own, to redeem, and to justify.
Oh, it is wonderful that he should care for me
Enough to die for me!
Oh, it is wonderful, wonderful to me!
3. I think of his hands pierced and bleeding to pay the debt!
Such mercy, such love and devotion can I forget?
No, no, I will praise and adore at the mercy seat,
Until at the glorified throne I kneel at his feet.
Oh, it is wonderful that he should care for me
Enough to die for me!
Oh, it is wonderful, wonderful to me!
Lesson
FOR CHILDREN
Begin the lesson by asking children to share things they are grateful for.
Read aloud: We have so many blessings. Once we get started trying to count them all, it is hard to stop. However, we can sometimes forget the most important blessing of all: Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ is our brother, our friend, our Savior and Redeemer. It is from him that all other blessings come. Because Jesus is so important in our lives, he can seem too big and too grand to be a part of our daily lives. But, if we will remember to be grateful for Jesus every day, we can have a personal relationship with him.
Ask: Why are you grateful for Jesus?
Share a personal experience when you were grateful for Jesus Christ.
Read aloud: It can be hard to count our blessings every day. We get really busy and have a lot of things to do. If we are not careful, we can go days without thinking of Jesus or thanking him.
Ask: How can we be grateful for Jesus every day?
FOR TEENS & ADULTS
Begin the lesson by watching the following video. Before pressing play, ask everyone to listen to the music and ponder about why they are grateful for Jesus Christ.
Read aloud: In our lives, we have so much. In our lives, we lose so much. We want so much and we feel so much and Jesus Christ is there through it all. Yet, we can forget to look for him every day. We ponder on our blessings, but sometimes tack the name of Christ on the end of our prayers without creating time to truly praise him.
Ask: Why do we forget to give thanks to Christ?
Read aloud: It is not always easy to thank Christ and feel gratitude for him. We live in a busy, hard world. As we strive to look for how Christ is blessing our life, we will find him.
Ask: How can we be grateful for Jesus every day?
