Hymn

I Have Work Enough to Do | Hymn #224
1. I have work enough to do,
Ere the sun goes down,
For myself and kindred too,
Ere the sun goes down:
Ev’ry idle whisper stilling
With a purpose firm and willing,
All my daily tasks fulfilling,
Ere the sun goes down.

2. I must speak the loving word,
Ere the sun goes down.
I must let my voice be heard,
Ere the sun goes down:
Ev’ry cry of pity heeding,
For the injured interceding,
To the light the lost ones leading,
Ere the sun goes down.

3. As I journey on my way,
Ere the sun goes down,
God’s commands I must obey,
Ere the sun goes down.
There are sins that need confessing;
There are wrongs that need redressing
If I would obtain the blessing,
Ere the sun goes down.

Lesson

FOR CHILDREN

Start the lesson by asking: What are some of your favorite things to do in the summer?

Read aloud: When the weather gets warm and school is over, we love to have fun! Summer is a great time to have adventures. Heavenly Father wants us to enjoy our summer. However, he also wants us to use our time wisely.

Ask: Why do you think Heavenly Father cares what we do with our time?

Read aloud: In the scriptures, Heavenly Father invites us to be “anxiously engaged in a good cause.” With all the extra time we have during the summer, we can set goals, learn new things, grow closer to family, and serve others.

Ask: What are some good activities we can do during the summer?

Finish the lesson by sharing about a time you did something during the summer that was a spiritual experience. Share your testimony.

FOR TEENS & ADULTS

Start by making a list on a whiteboard by asking the question: What are some things that compete for our time?

Read aloud: It is not always easy to manage our time. There are a lot of things competing for our attention. This is especially true when we have the opportunity to relax or have fun. We work hard at a lot of things and want to fill up the time feeling good.

While Heavenly Father wants us to find joy and loves when we rejoice in wholesome activities, he also wants us to use our time to grow closer to him.

Ask: Why does Heavenly Father care how we use our time?

Read aloud: During the summer, we have more opportunities to be around friends, visit with family, and have fun. Through the spirit, we can use this time to do good and draw closer to Christ.

Share a personal example of a time when you were able to use a fun activity to serve, learn something new, or feel the spirit.

Ask: What are some ways we can use the happy times to serve God?

Finish the lesson by bearing your testimony.

FOR SINGLE STUDY
