God taught Moses that “[His] work and [His] glory is to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.” Not only the prophets but all of us have been invited to participate in this great work. This Come Follow ME FHE lesson helps us better understand our eternal destiny.
Scripture
For behold, this is my
and my —to bring to pass the and of man.Hymn
1. Hope of Israel, Zion’s army,
Children of the promised day,
See, the Chieftain signals onward,
And the battle’s in array!
Hope of Israel, rise in might
With the sword of truth and right;
Sound the war-cry, “Watch and pray!”
Vanquish ev’ry foe today.
2. See the foe in countless numbers,
Marshaled in the ranks of sin.
Hope of Israel, on to battle;
Now the vict’ry we must win!
3. Strike for Zion, down with error;
Flash the sword above the foe!
Ev’ry stroke disarms a foeman;
Ev’ry step we conq’ring go.
4. Soon the battle will be over;
Ev’ry foe of truth be down.
Onward, onward, youth of Zion;
Thy reward the victor’s crown.
Lesson
FOR CHILDREN
Explain: Moses was taught by God face-to-face. Moses learned that God has creations and worlds without number. We are on only one of His worlds. There is no end to His works or His words (Moses 1:38). In spite of all of this, God told Moses, “For behold, this is my work and my glory—to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.” (Moses 1:39. Consider reading/reviewing all of Moses 1.)
Quote: Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf has said, “The vast expanse of eternity, the glories and mysteries of infinite space and time are all built for the benefit of ordinary mortals like you and me. Our Heavenly Father created the universe that we might reach our potential as His sons and daughters.”
Ask: If Heavenly Father loves each of His children, then how does He want us to treat others? What can we do to help in God’s great work of bringing others to Him?
Video: Jimmy started learning about the gospel because of the example he observed in his sister’s family.
FOR TEENS & ADULTS
Optional: God has long invited us to be a part of His work and glory—to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man. President Nelson has recently reiterated this invitation by inviting today’s youth to join the youth battalion in gathering Israel. Review President and Sister Nelson’s June 2018 Youth Broadcast.
Read: Moses 1:3-9, 12-16, 37-39 – Moses was taught by God and shortly after, Satan tempted Moses to worship him instead.
Ask: What gave Moses the knowledge and courage to dismiss Satan? (Moses 1:12-16) (Moses beheld that God had great glory, great creations and power, but Satan did not. Moses knew he could not worship Satan.)
Explain and ask: Satan tempted Moses because that’s what Satan does. He tries to get us to turn away from the Lord and follow him instead. How does this experience give us courage when we are tempted even when we are trying to do what is right? Overcoming temptation once can give us the strength to do so the next time. (Moses 1:18, 20-21). When have you had the courage to choose the right even when you were being tempted not to?
Video: If it is God’s “work and [His] glory to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man,” (Moses 1:39), what part does He want us to play in that work?
FOR SINGLE STUDY
Read: Moses 1:3-9, 12-16, 37-39
Ponder: How does it make you feel to know that you are numbered and known by God Himself? (Moses 1:37)
Read or Watch: Elder Uchtdorf’s “You Matter to Him.”
Journal: How have you seen the Lord bless you as you have joined in His work of salvation? (Either in temple work, family history work, temple service, or other church service.) What comes to mind as a way you can be a part of God’s work of salvation in your community?
